This Week We Learned:

Readers’ Workshop: Parents, don’t forget to make your child read READ READ this summer! Some people forget what a portable activity it is. Kids can read in the car, on vacation, at siblings’ ball games – all they need is a book and a source of light! Please don’t let reading fall to the back burner – keep it a priority and your child will avoid the “summer slide” that so many children unfortunately experience between kindergarten and first grade. We’ve worked SO HARD to get the kids where they are; don’t make our hard work all for nothing!

Math: We continued learning about fractions: dividing a whole into equal parts. We started learning about how to write a fraction – what the top number means and what the bottom number means.

Social Studies: We have been reading different poetry books this week. There are funny poems, sad poems, sweet poems, and scary poems; poems about friends, family, love, and more. We like the ones that make us laugh the best!

* Bye Bye Bounce Day will be on Monday, the 14th. All students, regardless of the special class schedule, will go to P.E. and celebrate the end of the year by jumping in the inflatables. Thanks to Coach V for arranging this!

Ways to Help at Home:

·        Get a notebook to keep a Summer Journal of what you do all summer long: vacations, sports, swimming, picnics, holidays, etc.

·        Go to the public library and sign up for their Summer Reading Program! While you’re there, check out some just-right books for you to practice reading every day

·        Check the progress report envelope for other ideas on how to enjoy the summer, but keep learning as well. On the back of the note is Mrs. Winning’s address – she’d love to be pen pals this summer!

Next Week:

·        Review letters: ALL letters AND sounds!

·        Review ALL sight words: I, see, like, to, am, a, can, you, my, the, we, are, go, it, on, and, was, in, for, do, is, this, look, us, will, up. not, he, she, me, of, said, what, play
